Giving Back to Our Neighbors & Our Neighborhood
Today’s California energy companies light our homes and businesses, provide the fuel to power our cars, and are part of the fabric of our communities. Not only do they employ thousands of Californians and provide billions of dollars in tax revenue for the state, but they are also giving back to the community in a variety of ways.
It starts by providing opportunities for today’s youth. Energy companies are offering scholarships to meet society’s changing needs. The awards range from traditional engineering to environmental sciences programs so that the energy world can evolve. There is also a greater emphasis in K-12 education in science, technology, engineering, and math—disciplines collectively known as STEM. The energy industry as a whole has elected to focus significant funding efforts for STEM, to the tune of hundreds of millions of dollars annually. STEM is proven to provide the career and technical training that can lead directly not only to well-paying jobs but also a thriving community.
In addition, the energy industry invests hundreds of millions of dollars in environmental protection and restoration. Companies are preserving wildlands for endangered and sensitive animal species. The energy industry is using reclaimed water to conserve water and cleaning contaminated water so that it can be repurposed. The industry is also working to beautify our neighborhoods in many ways like sponsoring tree planting programs.
California’s energy industry is a vital part of our community. By giving back, the industry ensures a better California for the future.
