California’s energy sector provides thousands of jobs and fuels the state’s economy. If California and its communities are to thrive, then job training and education must become a critical component of that success.

Honest dialogue on the issues is needed. For example, former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger misspoke when he stated, “there’s more solar jobs now in Bakersfield and around that area than there are oil jobs.” Politifact found that there were 14,000 jobs associated with the oil industry in the Bakersfield community compared to 2,500 in the solar industry with “most of which are temporary and tied to construction and installation.”

As the state continues to grow it is imperative that we look at all of the facts and support all sectors of the energy industry that fuel the state and the economy.
